myo-Inositol is a carbocyclic sugar, ubiquitary in almost all higher plants. It is a component of membrane - phospholipids (as part of Glycosylphosphatidlinositol - anchors which binds glycoproteins to cell membranes) and an important second messenger (as inositol trisphosphate).
